Information Governance Policy:
Objectives:
www.gov.au is the Australian whole-of-government single point of access that links to all Australian Government, State, Territory and Local government internet entry points.
The Information Governance Policy aims to:
- Make reasons for the inclusion of content transparent
- Identify relevant Government policy that needs to be complied with.
- Outline the policy allowing non-government organisations to link to www.gov.au.
Make reasons for the inclusion of content transparent:
The following criteria will be the basis for selecting content to be included (as links) on the site.
- Is the content authentic? www.gov.au will only link to content from Australian Government, State, Territory and Local government web sites.
- Is the content up-to-date and accurate? www.gov.au does not have control or responsibility for the currency of content it links to. Therefore, links will be made in good faith with the expectation that the contentis appropriately maintained by the author agency and is timely and accurate.
Identify relevant Government policy that needs to be complied with:
www.gov.au will comply with relevant government standards and information policy of the day. At this point in time this includes:
- consistency with the government’s online objectives;
- Australian Government Locator Service (AGLS) compliant use of metadata;
- privacy policy;
- disclaimer statement (including provision to open disclaimer information against each returned document);
- copyright statement; and
- consistency with Australian Government Web Publishing Guide.
Outline the policy allowing non-government organisations to link to www.gov.au:
Non-government organisations that wish to link to www.gov.au from their sites are requested to email the www.gov.au web manager through the contact us page to request permission.
Permission will be granted provided that:
- the requesting web site provides a reference point for information.
Permission will not be granted if:
- inclusion on the requesting site implies the Australian Government, State, Territory or Local governments endorse the site or product;
- the requesting site uses www.gov.au solely for commercial practices; or
- the context of the material is changed technically (e.g. the material is framed and users are unable to determine the location of the original material).
